Camp reflection

There was something tugging on the end of my line. Was a fish trying to steal my disgusting and revolting smelling bait? Well I had to find out. I started to reel it in. What was on the end? Was I caught in some rocks? Only the future knows. My friend Chloe started to yell this : “ India! You have a bite! You have a bite! That started to get me really excited so reeled it in faster and faster and faster! What if there was a fish on the end, hanging from the hook?!?!  What would I do?! A brown scaly thing popped out of the salty water, attached to my line. I caught a fish! I brought it over onto the path and Chloe tried to help me keep it still. She grabbed it and it slipped out of her hand and flew into the air. And when it came down it’s prickly spine pricked Chloe’s finger! OUCH!

Math mate on blog!

Predict:  I predict  it will be about addition

Read: The digit sum for 103 or 4 how many different three-digit numbers have the sum of 4?

Clarify: Nothing to clarify

Big question: How many different three-digit numbers have the sum of 4

Mathematician’s tool box: Test all possibilities

Solve: I started with adding 2 and 2. That equals 4. I put a 0 in the middle  so it was a 3 digit number. The other 2 were  301 and 400.

Summary: This could be very hard but with practice it becomes easy!

Ship wreck story

Friday the 18th of December

Hello Diary. My name is Alicia Kagros the 3rd. This is my diary. I don’t have many friends. I am very shy.  Well going back to me having not many friends. The truth is I only have 1. Her name is Paige. We are both in grade 4 at St. Stephanie’s primary school and it’s the last day before school holidays! Paige and I are going away on a ship during the holidays and we both can’t wait!

Saturday the 19th of December

Now that school is out Paige and I are packing our bags for our big trip tomorrow. I am packing lots of T-shirts because it is meant to be hot where we are going. The people that are going is Paige, Paige’s Mum Rachel , My mum Eliza, My little sister Masiri and I.

Sunday the 20th of December

I can’t wait until we set of. Mum, Masiri and I have our suit cases and we are walking along the dock to the boat. That’s where we are meeting Paige and her mum. Our suitcases are making loud noises behind us. That’s when I see Paige. I wave and grin. She waves back with a bigger grin on her face. I run over.   Paige and I have a chat while we wait for my family to arrive. Once they get here we all say hello and aboard the boat.

We have been on the boat for about 1 hour. Paige and I were talking when I heard a big BANG!!! The next thing I know is I am cold, numb and wet. I am also sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

Monday the 21st of December

It’s me Paige Jillson. I am writing in Alicia’s diary. This is not something I would usually do but Alicia can’t finish her story. So I am here to finish the story. The ship we were on crashed. It smashed into a rock. All the others died but me. I am here in hospital with a broken leg. My brother and dad are coming to check on me. Now that’s the story.

The end.

This story is not real. It is simply a story I made up. It is based on a photo. It is also based on my friends

100wc the night before Christmas

As I walk down into the cellar I don’t know what I want base it on. I think of many different things. Flying pigs? An evil teddy bear? Oh I know! How about Christmas. I can draw a Christmas tree decorated nicely with presents under it. I can imagine it. I can give it to my family for Christmas. I reach the cellar. All my paint’s, pastel’s and papers are where I left them. I can start drawing my tree. With lots of baubles that there will be no blank spots on the tree. I love the power of give.

Gilbert’s ghost train reflection

During literature circles I read “Gilbert’s ghost train” by David Metzenthen. If you want to read this book you will need to know the answer to the following questions.

Question 1, What makes this book good? One of the things that were fantastic about this book is Martin Dean’s (One of the main characters) suspicions about Gilbert Cutler. (Another main character in the story). Martin is convinced his 28 year old friend is a ghost. One of the clues Martin has is the fact Gilbert told him he worked on an old steam train. He also said he fought in the war. From the war he brought back an army hat with a bullet hole in it.

Question 2, what would make this book better? I thought the book was a little bit to serious, with Dally Dean (Another main character) having ‘leukaemia’. (A disseise where your white blood cells take over your red blood cells) So over all I thought the book was to over whelming and a little bit to serious.

Question 3, what is one of the most important things the author wants you to know? I think David wants us to know that people die every day. People die for all sorts of reasons. Some people get too old to keep on going; some people get sick like Dally did. Or some people are not happy with their lives and they kill themselves. But people die and David wants us to know it’s a fact of life.

Question 4, why did the writer write this book? Well for this question I think it’s actually asking me this: What is the moral of the story? I think the moral of the story is …. “Things/people don’t last forever, enjoy them while you can.” Martin needed to enjoy Dally while he could. He didn’t have very long to do that though.

Question 5, what does the audience need to know to understand and enjoy this book? Well the audience needs to understand how sick dally is. They need to understand that this poor little probably won’t make it and get better. They also need to understand what life is like for Martin. How he is probably going to lose his brother and that his life is changing so much and that it’s going to be changed for ever and ever.

math mate :) sheet 7

Predict: I predict this will be about estimation.

Read: Sam has 3 white,3 light blue and 3 dark blue T-shirts in his draw. There was a black out and Sam needed a blue T-shirt. How many T-shirts does Sam need to pull out to defiantly get a blue T-shirt?

Clarify: nothing to clarify.

Big question: how many T-shirts does Sam need to pull out to defiantly get a blue T-shirt?

Mathematicians tool box: guess check and improve.

Solve: well I thought he needed to pull out three shirts but what if they were all white? So I added one to make sure there would defiantly be a blue T-shirts.

Summary: This could be a hard question but with practice it becomes easy.
